CHILD & ADOLESCENT THERAPY

Child & Adolescent Therapy

At TFC we specialise in supporting children, teenagers and young people with a variety of psychological and mental health problems. We recognise the many pressures there are for children and young people and how quickly difficulties can develop.

If your child is showing signs of psychological distress or has expressed concerns around their emotional and psychological well-being, then knowing where both you and they can get help is important. Early intervention and support can help to stop things from escalating for your child/teenager. Therapeutic work is a journey and we specialise in developing trusting relationships with you and your child so we can fully understand their difficulties in the context of "what happened to you", rather than "whats wrong with you!". Understanding the difficulties together in the context of history and experience is vital to how we can support children and young people to heal and recover from their experiences.

We offer children and young people a comfortable, peaceful and private therapy space in a quiet, rural location. Our unique and tranquil rooms provide a comfortable and confidential space where children, young people and their parents can meet Dr Wendy Coetzee in therapeutic surroundings. Our rooms are designed to make people feel at ease surrounded by nature and with beautiful views across the countryside.

Wendy has worked with children, teenagers and young people for over 20 years as a Clinical Psychologist in NHS and private health care settings. Wendy's experience in mental health and well being and her unique personable and compassionate approach enable her to make good trusting relationships with families. Wendy's aim is to help support children and young people to develop an understanding of themselves and to develop strong emotional foundations to support them as they face the challenges of growing up and developing into young people.

We support children and young people  with:

  • Anxiety, mood disturbance, depression and OCD,
  • Self Harm and suicidal thinking
  • Post trauma and PTSD.
  • Bereavement and Loss.
  • Divorce and family difficulties.
  • A wide variety of social and emotional difficulties including bullying, victimisation, stress, self esteem and confidence issues.
  • A range of Neuro-developmental difficulties eg Developmental Trauma, Attachment difficulties, ADHD, ASD.

With over twenty years of Psychological  expertise we are here to support and listen to your child.

The first step is to make contact with us so that we can understand your child's situation and get you booked in for an initial consultation and assessment.

Contact us

We have a strong commitment to working collaboratively with children and their families/parents. Effecting change and improving psychological well being often involves working together with the child and their parents/carers to effect the most successful and long lasting changes.

You may already have an ideas about what therapeutic approaches you would like us to use and this will be discussed with you during your first session. We will work closely with you and your child to create a tailored package of treatment with clear goals. It is important to us that everyone involved feels able to talk openly and freely, so we pride ourselves on being able to form excellent relationships in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

Testimonial

“ Our son spent about 4 years rejecting therapeutic spaces, but we held on and he's now asking to see Wendy. This is huge!  .....When working with trauma, we have had to be so patient. I guess trusting the process. Being brave and speaking up when it feels difficult. Knowing it's OK to do that. Knowing it's a safe space free of judgement".

"Walking sessions with Bertie the dog has been super helpful and great for the kids too. Walking and talking helps and has helped the kids to talk in ways that they have found hard in a more traditional therapy space."
